ICTS - CIEM

The ICTS-CIEM (Maritime Research and Experimentation Wave Flume) is a research infrastructure in the field of maritime engineering, managed by the Laboratori d'Enginyeria Marítima (LIM) from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Thanks to its special characteristics (i.e. combined wave and currents generation) the CIEM is an exceptional research infrastructure (both in the EU and world- wide) for controlled hydraulic experiments in coastal, harbour and oceanographic engineering, as well as in other fields such as aquiculture and wave-energy installations.

From the year 1993 that the flume was created, many national and international research and industrial projects have been carried out in this facility. Since 1997 The CIEM flume has been recognized as a “Large Scale Facility” by the DG Research of the European Commission (EU). Since 2006 The CIEM flume has been recognized as a ICTS “Singular Installation for Science and Technology” by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education.

Among other activities, CIEM participates at the EU research project HYDRALAB, offering access to european researchers to its infrastructure.

LIVE CIEM WEBCAMS

The webcams spread over the CIEM wave flume allow remote monitoring of current activities. The images are only available during tests times and a limited schedule.
